Don't Freak Out, 'Transformers: The Last Knight' Is Shorter Than The Other 'Transformers' Sequels
Reports of Transformers: The Last Knight's lengthy running time have been greatly exaggerated, according to director Michael Bay.
News surfaced yesterday — and on Google's search results — that the fifth entry into the massive Transformers series would boast an equally massive run time of 3 hours and 2 minutes. People understandably freaked out over having to watch three-plus hours of robots bashing each others' heads in, but Bay chimed in to assuage their fears and deny those reports.
When searching for the runtime of movies on Google, the most popular — and what people often take as the most accurate — result is often highlighted in a box at the top. In this case, the inaccurate result highlighted for the run time of Transformers: The Last Knight is what caused all this hoopla.
At 3 hours and 2 minutes, Transformers: The Last Knight would have been the longest Transformers yet, beating out the last already-lengthy film, Transformers: Age of Extinction which clocked in at 2 hours and 45 minutes. Here are the run times of all the Transformers movies below:
But after much ado about nothing was made on Twitter, Bay denied the reports that Transformers: The Last Knight was over three hours long, tweeting:
Reports of #transformers The Last Knight being over 3hrs is wrong. It's shorter than the last 3 movies by a lot.

Bay didn't confirm the official runtime of Transformers: The Last Knight, but we can infer from his claim that it's shorter than the last three movies that it will at least be under 2 hours and 30 minutes. But since he neglected to mention The Last Knight's runtime in relation to the first Transformers, I'm guessing it's no shorter than its 2 hour 24 minute runtime. There isn't a huge difference between 2 hours 30 minutes and 2 hours 24 minutes, so I'm not sure how much Bay thinks "a lot" is, but I'll let it slide. As long as we don't have to sit through a 3-hour-plus Transformers movie.
There's no information about where the 3 hour 2 minute runtime came from.
The fifth Transformers film will be Bay's last movie in the franchise adapting the Hasbro toys to the big screen, though it certainly won't be the last Transformers movie to be made. A Bumblebee spin-off has been confirmed with Hailee Steinfeld circling the human role of a mechanic and a sixth Transformers is reportedly still happening. And you couldn't stop it if you tried.
Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters June 21.
