Yes, It's True: Star Trek Klingons Have Two Of, Uh, Every Organ
By DANIELLE RYAN
In the “Star Trek” franchise, Klingons have a unique anatomical trait: redundant organs. The 1992 episode of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” introduced this concept when Worf needed surgery, revealing that Klingons have multiple organs, including two hearts, three lungs, and a peculiar trait that was a fan theory until the Season 1 finale of “Star Trek: Discovery.”
In an interview on “The Alpha Quadrant” podcast, writer Yeon Kim discussed the writers’ room debate about whether Klingons’ redundant organs included their genitals. Executive producer and director Akiva Goldsman found this idea amusing, joking, “Klingons have two dicks, Klingons have two dicks,” and incorporated it into “Star Trek: Discovery.”
Confirming this particular aspect of Klingon anatomy for fans is a testament to the franchise’s ability to blend high-minded ideas with more lighthearted content. Although “Star Trek: Discovery” concludes with Season 5, the topic of Klingon genitalia may resurface in shows like “Star Trek: Lower Decks,” which is unafraid of crude humor.
