Worf’s Love Life Started A Feud Between Star Trek Writers
By DANIELLE RYAN
Romance is pretty complicated for Lieutenant Commander Worf, and throughout three "Star Trek" series he was given two major, and tragic, love interests.
His marriage with Jadzia Dax on "Deep Space Nine" created a favorite pairing of many fans, but he also had a love affair with half-Klingon ambassador K'ehleyr (Suzie Plakson.)
In the book "Captain’s Logs," Cliff Bole, who directed K'ehleyr’s episode, stated "I think the Klingon shows are fun to do, because you can go a little broad with them."
Originally, there were plans for a different character played by Plakson to end up in a romance with Worf: the Vulcan Dr. Selar from Tracy Tormé's episode "The Schizoid Man."
Tormé felt that the idea behind K'ehleyr’s debut episode was "obvious," and he declared that "had it been a Vulcan, it would have been a lot more interesting."
However, a Vulcan would have made the potential for Worf's son, Alexander, much less likely, and getting to see Worf be the worst dad ever is an integral part of his character.
It's a bummer that we didn't get to see Worf’s relationship with Dr. Selar and that K'Ehleyr died after having Worf’s son, but Plakson did play both characters well.
