Why Rhenzy Feliz's Victor Aguilar Dies In The Penguin Finale

Spoiler Warning!
This story contains spoilers for "The Penguin."
When "The Penguin" was announced, some fans were concerned it would become required viewing for the Batman Epic Crime Saga. Fortunately, the show’s storylines are self-contained.
Near the finale, the show's only major addition to the franchise seemed to be Vic (Rhenzy Feliz), Oz's sidekick. Their closeness made it seem that Vic would be in the next movie.
But "The Penguin" cut this thread off too; Oz choked Vic
to death during a hug. This happened for seemingly no reason, and showrunner Lauren LeFranc stepped in to explain.
"Victor saw Oz at his weakest, at his most vulnerable. Oz really feels like he needs a level of power. He can't have weakness, so he kills Victor," LeFranc stated.
When Vic tells Oz that he's "like family" to him, not knowing how little family means to Oz, it becomes clear that their friendship was false. Oz never truly cared for Vic.
While Oz mostly kills for strategic reasons, his murder of Vic is wholly unnecessary and makes him lose all sympathy, preparing the audience for
his downfall in the movie.
