Why Netflix's Live-Action One Piece Didn't Include Chouchou
By RAFAEL MOTAMAYOR
The "One Piece" live-action adaptation has been mainly faithful to the first 90 chapters of the iconic manga. However, not everything made it into the adaptation series.
One thing that wasn't included was a beloved character with the first heartbreaking flashbacks in the source material — Chouchou the dog.
In the manga, readers and Luffy meet Chouchou in Orange Town as the dog vigilantly guards his deceased owner's pet food shop.
While speaking with Screen Rant, co-showrunner Steven Maeda revealed they had planned to include a Chouchou subplot with Zoro in the series.
Maeda said, "We had a scene and an arc with [Chouchou] and Zoro, and it was very different. And ultimately, we decided it was too different."
He continued, "We would have loved to have the [Chouchou] story in there, but it's more important to have Zoro be with Luffy and Nami when they are encountering Buggy."
