Why Kurt Russel Bought Val Kilmer A Grave Plot When They Finished Tombstone
By DANIELLE RYAN
During the troubled production of “Tombstone,” lead actors Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer formed a strong bond. Once filming wrapped, the two exchanged sentimental gifts.
Russell gave Kilmer a plot at Boot Hill cemetery in Tombstone, Arizona. Kilmer reciprocated with an acre overlooking it, echoing their characters' themes of life and death.
In an interview with GQ, Kilmer explained the reasoning behind the presents, stating, "In those days [...] sometimes at the end of the show, you'd get gifts or trade gifts."
The symbolism of the gifts being Russell's character is the life to Holiday's death, and together, they are an unstoppable force — much like Russell and Kilmer as performers.
Realizing the significance of their matching gifts, Russell recalls the moment, stating, “We just looked at each other and went, ‘Well, I guess that pretty much says it all.’”
