Why Barack Obama Turned Down A Cameo In Netflix’s 3 Body Problem

Based on the 2006 sci-fi novel “The Three-Body Problem” by Cixin Liu, Netflix's new series, “3 Body Problem,” is an ambitious tale that unfolds across multiple time frames.
The series features an intricate narrative including space aliens, an invasion from the planet Trisolaris, and a peculiar virtual reality video game with a climate-disaster theme.
The sci-fi epic stars notable actors like Benedict Wong, Jovan Adepo, Eiza González, Rosalind Chao, and Jonathan Pryce — and almost Barack Obama.
Despite being invited by the show's co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, former President Obama declined to make a cameo appearance in the Netflix series.
Per USA Today, Obama rejected the offer by sending a note stating, "'In case there ever is a real alien invasion, I think I should probably save myself for that crisis.'"
The creators expressed no regrets, citing inspiration from a 2017 New York Times interview where Obama praised the original novel, even including it in his end-of-year list.
