The Star Trek: TNG Finale Cut An Entire Borg Plotline
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
The series finale of “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” called “All Good Things…,” featured a multiple timeline story of Jean-Luc Picard’s past, present, and future.
While it was a great way to wrap up the series, episode writers Brannon Braga and Ronald D. Moore wanted a fourth timeline where the Borg assimilated Picard.
Moore said, “The fourth one [...] was revisiting the events of ‘The Best of Both Worlds,’ when Picard was taken and turned into [a Borg named] Locutus.”
The writer added that the finale episode was “going to bounce between those four events.” However, showrunner Michael Piller felt a fourth timeline was too much.
Moore shared, “Michael, I think, rightly said, ‘It’s one too many, and we want this to kind of be the beginning, middle, and end of his life.’”
While Braga hoped to incorporate the Borg into the final episode as an homage to the villains’ legacy, he admitted, “Three timelines felt like the right amount of timelines.”
