The Secret Weapon That Saved Bones From Cancellation
By SANDY SCHAEFER
Throughout its 12 seasons on Fox, Hart Hanson's “Bones” never achieved blockbuster ratings, but it managed to build a dedicated fanbase, even with early attempts to end the show.
Hanson shared in an interview with TV Insider that despite Fox's repeated attempts to end “Bones,” the cast and crew always had a secret weapon against Fox’s cancellation.
Hanson said, “During all those years at Fox, we had one secret weapon, a ninja supporter at the network: Preston Beckman, the head of scheduling. Preston liked ‘Bones.’”
While having Beckman on their side didn't necessarily simplify matters for the "Bones" crew, Hanson admitted, “There were even network heads who didn't want to talk about us.”
Hanson, reflecting on the show's longevity, said, "Our vindication is just surviving this long. It's a lot like life; if you live long enough, they just start to like you."
