The Rings Of Power Scene That Proved [REDACTED] Is The Perfect Sauron
By RAFAEL MOTAMAYOR
Spoiler Warning!
This story contains major spoilers for
the entirety of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" Season 1
Throughout the first season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” the audience is left to ponder the mystery shrouding the identity of the Dark Lord Sauron. While many viewers had already pinpointed their prime suspect, the Season 1 finale confirmed that Galadriel’s traveling companion, Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), is the future lord of the rings and enemy of Middle-Earth.
“The Rings of Power” diverges from the source material, delivering its own take on the character, yet there are moments in the series that showcase a different but somehow familiar Sauron. In one scene with Celebrimbor, Halbrand drops the veil of his disguise and fully becomes the Sauron the Deceiver fans recognize.
Halbrand reveals that he is more familiar with elven craftsmanship than any human should be and that his “master” was a fan of Celebrimbor’s work, referring to Aulë, the smith who created the Two Lamps of the Valar. Before long, Halbrand shares the secrets of smithing using mithril, calling his suggestion a “gift,” thus setting the creation of the elven rings in motion.
Halbrand’s demeanor changes as he starts manipulating the smith through praise, possibly making it easier to convince the elf to accept more of his “gifts” later on. While this version of Sauron may not have been what audiences expected, his deceptive nature is ultimately a faithful adaptation of the novels that finally brings the Dark Lord to Middle-earth in physical form.
