The Only Surviving Actors From The Original Rocky Movie
By JOE ROBERTS
"Rocky" introduced the world to Sylvester Stallone as the scrappy Southpaw from South Philly, who led a remarkable film for its realism and affecting performances.
The stellar cast included Burgess Meredith as Rocky's trainer, Mickey Goldmill, Talia Shire as his love interest, Adrian Pennino, and Burt Young as his best friend, Paulie Pennino.
Then, of course, there was the great Carl Weathers as antagonist Apollo Creed — the boxing star with whom Rocky goes the distance during the final fight.
Unfortunately, in the decades since the film debuted, we've lost many actors who made "Rocky" what it was. That said, a couple of the film's stars remain.
Sylvester Stallone
Rocky Balboa embodies a deeply personal aspect of Stallone. After the surprise success of "Rocky," he became one of the world's biggest action stars.
In 2006, he gave a moving performance in a heartfelt return to the world of Rocky. He was part of the "Expendables" saga and currently stars in the crime series "Tulsa King."
Talia Shire
Rocky's timid yet strong girlfriend, Adrian Pennino, later became his wife. Adrian endeared herself to fans by standing by the plucky underdog when he was at his lowest.
Shire had previously played Connie Corleone in "The Godfather" saga and was nominated for Golden Globe and Oscar awards for her work in both franchises.
Since then, Shire has continued to act with an impressive post-"Rocky" filmography while raising three sons, one of whom is actor Jason Schwartzman.
