The Lost World: Jurassic Park Was Forced To Improvise One Ominous Scene
By RAFAEL MOTAMAYOR
Speaking with CinemaBlend, writer David Koepp explained how, during a scene where Jeff Goldblum and the rest of the cast approach Isla Sorna, their boat stops short of shore.
In the movie, the captain says they don't want to approach the island because of rumors of missing boats and dead crewmen, but in reality, they have no choice.
The scene needed improvisation when the boat literally stopped. According to Koepp: "We got stuck on a sandbar in the middle of the river.”
Koepp said he called the director, Steven Spielberg, and told him the cast and crew were stuck, who told him to “just rewrite it however you can and shoot whatever you can.”
"That's all made up at the last second," Koepp continued. "And then the tide came up and the boat floated free and we were fine. But yeah, we had to make up a whole thing.”
