The 12 Best Will Ferrell Movies, Ranked
By SIMON BLAND
13. Honorable Mention: SNL
Will Ferrell joined "Saturday Night Live" in 1995 and spent the next seven years appearing in various sketches, many of which pushed the boundaries of what mainstream comedy could be, regardless of the consequences. Ferrell used his time on the show to plant the seeds of a career and a distinct style of comedy that audiences know and love today.
12. Spirited
"Spirited" matches Ferrell with Ryan Reynolds, and together they put an all-singing, all-dancing new spin on Charles Dickens' festive story "A Christmas Carol." Ferrell plays Present, the Ghost of Christmas Present, who is on a mission to prove "irredeemable" Clint (Reynolds) can be saved via the familiar "Christmas Carol" method.
11. Everything Must Go
"Everything Must Go" follows Nick Halsey (Ferrell), a man whose life has hit rock bottom, and chronicles his attempts at realigning his narrative, quelling his demons, and setting things back on track. While it contains the occasional gag, Ferrell seems dedicated to delivering something that actively plays against the persona he has spent years building.
10. The Lego Movie
"The Lego Movie" is an entertaining and genuinely funny movie that boasts an all-star cast, including Ferrell, who plays the film's villainous Lord Business to perfection. Utilizing his best over-the-top bad guy chops, he delivers a performance that is as necessarily silly as the film's concept.
9. Anchorman 2
"Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" was never going to beat the original, but it has its moments. The ensemble cast — Ferrell, Steve Carrell, David Koechner, Paul Rudd — and director Adam McKay throw everything at the wall in a movie that provides plenty of laughs despite an all-over-the-place plot.
