Picard Isn’t The Star Trek Show Ed Speleers Auditioned For

Ed Speleers made a splash in “Star Trek: Picard” as Jack Crusher, but he revealed in an interview with SFX Magazine that he originally auditioned for a different “Star Trek” role.
Speleers said, “Initially I was actually asked to go up for a different part in a different Trek series. I think it was 'Strange New Worlds.’ I did a tape and nothing came of it.”
Since he was reading excerpts of dialogue, Speleers didn’t know exactly what role he was auditioning for, but he guessed it was for “the Kirk character that Paul Wesley played.”
Though he didn’t land that role, Speleers added a lot of emotional resonance to the character of Jack Crusher and made a great addition to the “Star Trek” franchise in the end.
