Mike Flanagan's Midnight Mass Was Inspired By This Stephen King TV Series

There have been many Stephen King movies, but the author thinks TV is a better medium for his work — and in 1999, he wrote an original miniseries for ABC: "Storm of the Century."
"Storm of the Century" is set on Little Tall Island and centers on a murderous stranger named Andre Linoge who demands the residents give him a child to raise.
The show is a morality play that King was pleased with, and it has lots of fans. One such fan is Mike Flanagan, who cited it as a direct influence on his series "Midnight Mass."
"Midnight Mass" deals with faith, death, and remorse. Like "Storm of the Century," it’s set in a small island community, and the residents grapple with their own dark impulses.
Flanagan wrote on tumblr, "The town meeting sequence of STORM is the finest scene of its kind I've ever seen, and I definitely had that in mind a few times while writing MASS."
