It’s Always Sunny’s McPoyle Brothers Were Inspired By A Real-Life Guy
By SHAE SENNETT
The McPoyle brothers from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" found their inspiration in a real person known to one of the series co-creators, Charlie Day, during his college days.
Brendan McPoyle, having no resemblance to the characters, had a name that Day found amusing, as revealed by Day on LAist, stating, “I just always thought it was a funny name.”
Jimmi Simpson and Nate Mooney, who portray brothers Ryan and Liam McPoyle, were picked for their talents, not any perceived similarities.
According to Day, “Jimmi Simpson and Nate Mooney, [...] who play Ryan and Liam McPoyle, are good friends of mine from way back when,” and they were eager to be part of the show.
