How The Road House Remake Measures Up To The Original Film
By JEREMY SMITH
Prime Video recently released the 2024 remake of the 1989 film "Road House," which starred Patrick Swayze as a protective bouncer who restores order to a rowdy bar.
The remake features many similarities, including the reuse of the character Elwood Dalton as the businessman seeking to secure the establishment at any cost.
In the remake, actor Jake Gyllenhaal plays Dalton, a former UFC Champion grappling with a dark, troubled past and driven by money.
However, Swayze's Dalton was tough and respected. His Dalton practiced tai chi and had a Zen philosophy, preaching, "Be nice until it's time not to be."
The location also differs between the two. The original "Road House" is set in a backwater town called Jasper, Missouri, while the remake takes place in Glass Key, Florida Keys.
