Godzilla’s Design Was Based On These Real-Life Dinosaurs
By DEVIN MEENAN
"Godzilla on My Mind: Fifty Years of the King of Monsters" by William Tsutsui, states that the design for Godzilla was based on three real dinosaur species.
Like the T-Rex, the most famous of the predatory dinosaurs, Godzilla's body shape corresponds to theirs, particularly his nose and sharp teeth.
The Stegosaurus' most distinguishing feature is the one copied for Godzilla: its plates. Like the dinosaur, Godzilla has two rows of dorsal plates.
The Iguanodon could walk bipedally on its hind legs. It wasn't their preferred way of moving, but they could walk like Godzilla would millions of years later.
