Encanto Co-Director Jared Bush Finally Gives The Answer To The Bruno 'Plot Hole'

The outcast Uncle Bruno from Disney’s “Encanto” disappears for 10 years, only to be later discovered living in the walls of the family’s magical home with only rats for companions. To help with his solitude, Bruno teaches the rodents to perform stage play versions of telenovelas; however, some observant fans realize that this small detail shouldn’t be possible.
The film never explicitly states how Bruno would know what telenovelas are, as “Encanto” is set during the 1900s, a period notably devoid of telenovelas. Following “Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl,” co-writer and co-director Jared Bush hosted a Twitter Q&A for the film, where one user asked that very question, to which Bush replied, “He can see the future!”
The answer might not be satisfying for some, but Disney has a tradition of characters being able to see the future, such as the Genie from “Aladdin,” who seemed to have a deep knowledge of movies and TV shows from multiple eras. Other characters like the gargoyles from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” were also shown to have a similar ability but to a lesser extent.
