Disney's Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Returns After 95 Years For a New Short Film

As Disney prepares for its 100th-anniversary celebration, it’s safe to assume that fans are in store for some blasts from the studio’s past. While Mickey Mouse is the company’s most iconic mascot, Walt Disney’s earlier cartoon character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, is set to make a comeback with a brand new short for the centennial.
The announcement is one of the studio’s first efforts to celebrate its long history by revisiting one of Disney’s oldest properties that only the most diehard fans remember. Dorothy McKim, the short’s producer, shared on Disney’s website, “On the eve of Disney’s 100th anniversary, it was such a joy to create the first new Oswald short from our studio since 1928.”
The animators were able to perfectly recapture the vibe of cartoons from Oswald’s era for the one-minute short, which Disney posted on its Youtube channel. Although Oswald, who Walt himself created, was sold to Universal Studios, his success allowed Disney’s small company to grow into what it is today. Oswald eventually returned to Disney in 2006.
