Marc Webb Discusses The 'Sinister Six,' Confirms Characters In 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' Credits
Does Sony have a plan for the Spider-Man film series? Of course they do! Well, actually... maybe? Any film series "plan" must involve an evolving set of decisions, but in the case of Spider-Man some of those decisions seem to contradict one another. The throughline of the two new films so far has involved Peter Parker's parents, his father's work at Oscorp, and Oscorp's tendency to develop technology that is really great for evil. In Marc Webb's movies, the company is essentially Ikea for supervillains.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is now on Blu-ray, and some releases feature a bonus disc that explains some of the ideas that are loosely leading up towards the Sinister Six. In some of those bonus features, director Marc Webb confirms the identity of the guy seen at the end of both movies, explains some things that have been rumored about the film, and explains the origin of the Amazing Spider-Man 2 end-credits, as they relate to Sinister Six. )Spoilers for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 follow.)
There are some big points here.

Given how well Sony's plans have worked out so far, we have no idea of what to expect with Sinister Six. Having Drew Goddard to write and direct is still the most promising aspect the film has going for it. But using the credits of the last film to tease characters who may or may not appear in the next movie seems like little more than blindly throwing darts at a board.
