See The New 'Power Rangers' Megazord And Get A Closer Look At The Power Suits
It remains to be seen if the nostalgia will bring the now grown up children of the 1990s and early 2000s into theaters to see the new Power Rangers movie coming next spring, or if Lionsgate is banking on the younger, newer fans of the various television incarnations to drag their parents to theaters. Either way, this movie is coming, and it's offering a whole new spin on the long-running property. Now we get a sneak peek at one of the signature pieces of Power Rangers.
Thanks to the official Power Rangers Twitter account, we get a glimpse of the new Megazord that will be controlled by our five teenage superheroes, and formed by their individual Zords that we already caught a glimpse of in some character posters.
Check out the new Power Rangers Megazord after the jump.
Here's the image from the Power Rangers Twitter account:
Keep in mind this is a toy version of the Megazord, and some details could have changed by the time we see it on the big screen. My first impression is that there's far too much bland gray there. It almost looks like a prototype rather than the final versionof the toy. Maybe everything that's gray is intended to be a shinier metal that isn't reflected in the toy version. After all, there does seem to be a certain shimmer to the Zords that we saw in the aforementioned character posters.
Beyond that, the design has one major difference from the original Megazord. The body form of the new Megazord looks much more human than robot. It more closely resembles the body of a human simply wearing armor, whereas the original Megazord was rather boxy. Plus, this one has wings, while the original never did. That was an element that would come in later Megazords as the line-up of Zords changed.
Moving on from toys, we also have a closer look at the suits our new Power Rangers will be wearing. So far, the photos of our heroes haven't made the suits look all that great. They just look extremely fake, and while the shows never went for realism, the first trailer indicates that the tone of the show is much more gritty and grounded, in the same vein of Chronicle.
But when you see the suits in a display for a marketing event, they don't look half bad (via Heroic Hollywood):

There are all the suits that will be worn by Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler, Naomi Scott, Becky G and Ludi Lin suited up as the Red, Blue, Pink, Yellow and Black Rangers respectively. Seeing them in a more tangible form makes them look just fine, so hopefully when we see the suits in motion they don't look as odd as they do in the stills we've seen so far.
Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.
Power Rangers is directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) and arrives on March 24, 2017.
