Jai Courtney, Samm Levine, And Marlo Thomas Join 'Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later' [UPDATED]
Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later will bring back plenty of familiar faces from the old Camp Firewood crew, but to keep things interesting it's also adding some fresh blood to the mix. As of today, that includes Jai Courtney, who's signed on to romance Amy Poehler's Susie in the next run of episodes. Could "comedy star" be the next phase of Courtney's career?UPDATE: Samm Levine and Marlo Thomas have also signed up for Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later cast. Find out which characters they're playing below. Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later is the follow-up to the Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp prequel series that hit Netflix last summer, as well as a sequel to the original movie. It picks up on the promise made by the Firewood camp counselors in the film, when they decide that "ten years from today, we'll meet again, and we'll see what kind of people we've blossomed into." The reunion is teased in a brief post-credits scene, but Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later will expand that moment into a full-on season.
According to Deadline, Courtney will play...
... Garth MacArthur, a suave, indie movie darling who is about to become a household name. Garth is recognized wherever he goes, but his eyes aren't on the fans. He's mad about Susie (Poehler) and wishes she would agree to take their relationship beyond "friends with benefits." He joins her on the trip back to Camp Firewood.
Courtney seems like an unlikely choice for the role, given that he's better known for action flicks like A Good Day to Die Hard and Terminator Genisys and dramas like Unbroken than he is for any comedy work. But he got a chance to let his goofier side shine in Suicide Squad, resulting in arguably his most charismatic performance yet. I'm ready for him to continue expanding his horizons with some weirder, sillier material — you know, the way Chris Pine did in Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.
UPDATE: Deadline now adds that Levine, who voiced perpetually filthy radio host Arty, will finally get to play the character in person. Thomas has been cast as "Vivian, a woman with a mysterious connection to the past history of the camp."
As reported a couple weeks ago, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later will add Alyssa Milano and Mark Feuerstein to the lineup. The new stars join a whole bunch of returning players including Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Janeane Garofalo, Christopher Meloni, Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth, Michael Ian Black, Molly Shannon, A.D. Miles, Joe Lo Truglio, and Ken Marino from the movie, plus Chris Pine, Lake Bell, Kristen Wiig, and Josh Charles from the TV series. David Wain and Michael Showalter are executive producing.
