Did You Catch The 'Good Dinosaur' Easter Egg In 'Inside Out'?
The Good Dinosaur isn't even in theaters for another month, but it's never too early to start hunting for Easter eggs. As it turns out, one of Pixar's very first references to their next movie appeared in their last movie, this summer's Inside Out. Find out what the Inside Out Good Dinosaur Easter egg is after the jump.
Here's the Inside Out Good Dinosaur Easter egg, as spotted on Reddit. One of Riley's memories involves a family photo opp next to a giant dinosaur statue on the side of the road. That dinosaur just so happens to look like Forrest Woodbush, a Styracosaurus who'll be voiced by Good Dinosaur director Peter Sohn in the movie.
Seeing as Forrest Woodbush loves to surround himself with colorful little pets, he'd probably be thrilled to discover he's attracting attention from adorable kids like Riley in some alternate universe where the meteor did hit Earth. We previously mentioned this particular reference in the Inside Out Easter egg roundup we ran in June, but it's nice to get a closer look now that we know a bit more about The Good Dinosaur and the characters who populate it.
Pixar famously loves to slip subtle allusions to their other films into each release. For example, fans know to always keep an eye out for the Luxo ball and the Pizza Planet truck — the latter of which has appeared in every single Pixar feature except The Incredibles, up to and including the medieval fantasy Brave. Thanks to the long lead time in animation, they're even able to tip their hats to films that haven't been released yet. A doll that looks like Nemo appears in Monsters, Inc., two years before Finding Nemo opened; a kid reads an Incredibles comic in Finding Nemo, a year before The Incredibles actually hit theaters, and so on.
So naturally, when they saw the opportunity to reference The Good Dinosaur in Inside Out, they took it. I'm sure this won't be the last Easter egg in the film, either. Keep your eyes peeled when The Good Dinosaur opens November 25.
The Good Dinosaur asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo (voice of Raymond Ochoa) makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.
