'The Divergent Series: Insurgent' To Open In 3D; See The New Motion Posters
Oftentimes sequels are just more of the same, but at least we know for sure The Divergent Series: Insurgent will differ from its predecessor in one key way. Lionsgate/Summit announced today the dystopian action sequel will open in 3D. To celebrate that news, the studio is releasing eight "interactive 3D character posters" throughout the day.
After the jump, get the details on The Divergent Series: Insurgent 3D release, and check out The Divergent Series: Insurgent character posters.

Max (Mekhi Phifer) via HitFix:
Peter (Miles Teller) via Wired:
Christina (Zoë Kravitz) via EW:
Four (Theo James) via Moviefone:
And last but definitely not least, Tris (Shailene Woodley) via the official Divergent website.
The first Divergent was not in 3D, which is kind of too bad because there's at least one great scene that might have been made even better with some added depth. (If you've seen the movie, I'm talking about the ziplining sequence.) As far as we know its sequel wasn't shot in 3D either. So we're talking 3D of the post-converted variety, though as technology gets better and better, that distinction matters less than it once did.
The awkwardly titled The Divergent Series: Insurgent opens March 20, 2015, followed by The Divergent Series: Allegiant – Part 1 and The Divergent Series: Allegiant – Part 2 on March 18, 2016 and March 24, 2017 respectively. Robert Schwentke directed The Divergent Series: Insurgent, taking over from Divergent's Neil Burger.
The Divergent Series: Insurgent raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris's family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
