Puss In Boots: The Last Wish: Release Date, Cast, And More
(Welcome to ...And More, our no-frills, zero B.S. guide to when and where you can watch upcoming movies and shows, and everything else you could possibly stand to know.)
It has been quite some time since "Puss In Boots" graced the screen in 2011, giving the fan-favorite character from the "Shrek" franchise the chance to shine in the spotlight solo style. We first met the feisty cat, voiced by Antonio Banderas, in the all-time great sequel "Shrek 2," and he's a big part of what helped make that movie arguably the greatest entry in the franchise overall. Netflix has tried to help fill the void for younger audiences with "The Adventures of Puss In Boots" animated series, but it's not quite on the same level for most viewers. The good news is, the cat is coming back with "Puss In Boots: The Last Wish" in 2022, and we're here to give you all of the need-to-know info regarding the character's latest cinematic adventure.
Here is everything you need to know about "Puss In Boots: The Last Wish."
Puss In Boots: The Last Wish Release Date and Where You Can Watch It
"Puss In Boots: The Last Wish" is set to hit theaters on September 23, 2022, from Universal Pictures. It is expected to be an exclusive theatrical release, meaning that viewers will have to wait at least 30 days to view it at home following its initial rollout. Though that could change between now and the actual release. Ultimately, all of Universal's movies will end up streaming on Peacock after their runs in theaters.
What Is Puss In Boots: The Last Wish?
This is the long-awaited sequel to 2011's "Puss In Boots." That movie itself was a spin-off of the "Shrek" franchise, which brought back Antonio Banderas as the swashbuckling cat. This film, in particular, came about when Chris Meledandri ("Despicable Me") was tasked with rebooting both "Shrek" and "Puss In Boots" by Universal back in 2018. The goal was to introduce "fresh story lines to reintroduce the lovable ogre and the sword-wielding feline to new generations of moviegoers."
Puss In Boots: The Last Wish Directors, Crew, and More
Joel Crawford ("Trolls Holiday") is in the director's chair for the upcoming sequel/reboot. Mark Swift is producing, marking a reunion for the two filmmakers, who worked with one another on "The Croods: A New Age." Chris Meledandri ("Despicable Me") is credited with coming up with the story, with Chris Miller ("Shrek the Third") handling the screenplay.
Puss In Boots: The Last Wish Cast
As of this writing, the only confirmed cast member for the sequel is Antonio Banderas, who will return as the titular feline. It is unclear if any of the supporting characters from "Puss In Boots" will be reprising their roles, such as Salma Hayek's Kitty Softpaws, or if DreamWorks and Universal are looking to take things in an entirely new direction.
