DC League Of Super-Pets: Release Date, Cast, And More
(Welcome to ...And More, our no-frills, zero B.S. guide to when and where you can watch upcoming movies and shows, and everything else you could possibly stand to know.)
There have been plenty of DC Comics animated movies released over the years, but they haven't often made it to the big screen. However, in 2022, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Animation Group, DC Entertainment, Seven Bucks Productions, will deliver an animated big screen superhero adventure featuring an assembly of superpowered characters we haven't seen in theaters before.
"DC League of Super-Pets" is a new family-friendly superhero movie following Superman's dog Krypto and a few other assorted superhero pets as they try to foil the plans of an evil guinea pig who belongs to the notorious Lex Luthor. Find out everything we know about "DC League of Super-Pets" below.
DC League of Super-Pets Release Date and Where to Watch It
"DC League of Super-Pets" is currently slated to arrive in theaters on July 29, 2022. We first heard about the project back in 2018 when it was in development under the more simple title "Super Pets." However, Warner Bros. and DC Comics likely wanted to make sure the DC branding was clear, and "League of Super-Pets" sounds a little less childish than just "Super-Pets" on its own. It's more of a mouthful, but it doesn't feel like a plush animal toy line, even though there are bound to be plenty of stuffed animals based on the movie.
What is DC League of Super-Pets?
"DC League of Super-Pets" is a new animated movie inspired by the DC comics title "Legion of Super-Pets" and the "Super-Pets" animated series. However, although the movie will feature some of the same characters, it appears the movie won't be a direct adaptation of either property and will instead be an entirely new approach to the animal-based superheroes.
The team features Krypto the Superdog, who belongs to Superman, and he'll be joined by Batman's dog Ace, Green Lantern's squirrel B'dg (pronounced "badge"), The Flash's turtle Mcsnurtle, and Wonder Woman's pig, who doesn't appear to have an officially released name just yet. They'll all have to team up in order to stop a twisted guinea pig named Lulu and save the Justice League and Metropolis from destruction.
DC League of Super-Pets Cast
Dwayne Johnson leads the cast of "DC League of Super-Pets," and he'll be joined by his "Central Intelligence" and "Jumanji" franchise co-star Kevin Hart as the voice of Ace the Bat-Hound, Batman's trusty canine.
Recent reports have revealed comedian Marc Maron will lend his voice to Lex Luthor, and rumors have said Keanu Reeves will be voicing Bruce Wayne/Batman, but that has yet to be confirmed. The rest of the voice cast includes Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, and Jameela Jamil, but we haven't heard what specific characters they'll be voicing in the movie just yet.
DC League of Super-Pets Director, Writer, and More
"DC League of Super-Pets" will be directed by Jared Stern and Sam Levine. Stern wrote for "The LEGO Batman Movie" and "The LEGO Ninjago Movie" and Levine worked on "Bolt" and "Gnomeo & Juliet," so hopefully that combination will come up with something fun for adults and kids alike.
On top of starring in the film, Dwayne Johnson will also be producing through his Seven Bucks Productions banner with his partners Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. Jared Stern is also on board as producer along with Patricia Hicks. Meanwhile, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra and Nicholas Stoller are executive producing.
DC League of Super-Pets Trailer and Synopsis
Here's the official synopsis for "DC League of Super-Pets" from Warner Bros. Pictures:
It sure isn't easy being Superman's dog! Krypto hails from Krypton and has super-powers like his owner; but his social skills are decidedly alien at the dog park and he has no idea how to be ordinary. But when Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and the rest of the Justice League are kidnapped; while Krypto is exposed to green kryptonite as a motley crew of shelter pets is exposed to orange kryptonite. Krypto is stripped of his abilities while the other animals become all-powerful.
Krypto must learn to be less alien; and more "human" to teach Batman's dog Ace, Wonder Woman's pig, Green Lantern's squirrel B'dg, and The Flash's turtle Mcsnurtle how to harness their new powers, work together, and become the superheroes they were destined to be. But can they defeat a twisted guinea pig named Lulu and save the Justice League and Metropolis from destruction? And will a bunch of strays find homes with the most famous superheroes on earth?
