What is Violet Evergarden?
The story of "Violet Evergarden" begins with the 13-episode anime series. In an alternate 20th century Europe, Violet is a retired soldier who has only ever been treated as a weapon. After the end of the war and the loss of her arms in battle (now replaced with mechanical limbs), she is tasked with integrating into civilian life. The series sees her struggling to connect with others and find her life's purpose without a battle to fight. Soon, Violet joins the workforce as an Auto Memory Doll, a person who helps others by ghost writing letters for them. This proves incredibly helpful for her transition, as Violet becomes more in touch with human emotions and tries to understand the phrase her presumed dead major, Gilbert Bougainvillea, last spoke to her: "I love you."
