2018 Emmy Winners: 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' And 'Game Of Thrones' Lead Wins, Netflix Makes Major Gains
The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards aired on NBC Monday night with Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che double-teaming to present the awards to TV's finest talents live from the Microsoft Theater. The 2018 ceremony marks a historic shift for the Emmy Awards' — moving the ceremony from Sunday to Monday night in a bid to increase declining ratings.
The 2018 Emmy winners were updated live during the ceremony. Winners appear in bold.
Tonight was a marvelous night for, well, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The freshman comedy series swept the comedy categories, winning big in Comedy Series, Lead Actress, and Supporting Actress, while creator Amy Sherman-Palladino won for both Writing and Directing. There's just no stopping this spectacularly well-acted and well-written Amazon series, which also swept the Golden Globes earlier this year.
On the dramatic side, Game of Thrones scored the Drama Series and Lead Actor categories, while the rest of the trophies were divided among The Americans and The Crown — two shows which saw respective ends of their eras. The Americans, which earned a writing award and an acting win for Matthew Rhys, wrapped up its six-season run this year, while The Crown won directing and acting for lead Claire Foy, who leaves with the original cast as the show leaps through time.
But the biggest surprise winner was Netflix, whose series Seven Seconds earned an award with Regina King's lead actress in a limited series win, as well as its female-led Western series Godless, which collected two acting awards.
