Here's Why Peter Parker Is Going To Europe In 'Spider-Man: Far From Home'
Spoiler alert: despite the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Spider-Man is alive and well. Or at least, he will be, in Spider-Man: Far From Home. The Homecoming sequel will not only bring Peter Parker back for more adventures – it will also send him to Europe. And now we know why. Get ready: the answer isn't really that exciting!
We had previously learned that the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, now titled Spider-Man: Far From Home, would take Peter Parker out of New York City and across the pond to Europe. But why? Why is our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man leaving the comforts of home? I personally thought it would be because of some sort of class trip, but Marvel President Kevin Feige has supplied the answer to io9. Are you ready to have your mind blown!? Here it is!
"We know it's the summer. I think it's summer vacation. I think he's going to Europe with his friends."
There you have it: Spider-Man is on vacation. Look, I know we're all starved for the latest Marvel info, but there's not a lot to go on here. What is worth noting is that Feige is still trying to sell fans on thinking that every post-Infinity War movie will be set before the events of Infinity War. "I don't know what summer... I mean, I do know [but you don't]," Feige said, and then probably winked several times at the interviewer. This is Feige's way of suggesting that Far From Home is set during a summer before the events of Infinity War, but folks, I'm not buying it. And neither should you.
Marvel has painted themselves into a corner with Infinity War, and the annoying thing is, they really didn't have to. Yes, at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, half the Marvel Cinematic Universe went up in smoke, and yes, it was pretty shocking. The problem here is that Infinity War filmmakers the Russo Brothers, and the Marvel brain trust in general, have been swearing up and down that the deaths in Infinity War are permanent. But we all know that can't be true, because there are still a ton of MCU films to come.
Marvel could've easily avoided this issue. Instead of constantly bulls***ting everyone, claiming the Infinity War deaths are permanent, and pretending all the subsequent films will be prequels, Feige and company should be asking: "How will we bring the dead characters back?" That's how you sell the post-Infinity War films – get the fans hyped for the solution to the problem, not the problem itself. We already know that Spider-Man (and all the other evaporated characters) will be back. Why not embrace that and generate excitement about their return?
Of course, Marvel is a billion-dollar company and I'm just some dumb guy on the internet, so maybe they know better than me. Either way, it's clear that Spider-Man will be back in some capacity soon. And that he'll be having a fun vacation with his pals.
Spider-Man: Far From Home opens in 2019.
