'Iron Sky: The Coming Race' Trailer: Space Hitler Is Back, With A Dinosaur
Iron Sky, which followed two American astronauts who land on the moon only to find it occupied by the descendants of Nazis who escaped in 1945, was a movie that existed. And now, a sequel to the 2012 cult hit is going to be released. With more space Nazis. Oh, and dinosaurs this time.
Nuclear war! A heavily scarred Hitler on a dinosaur! Reptile people! Yeah, I have no idea what's going on in this trailer either. To be fair, I never saw the first film, I only vaguely knew that a movie about "Nazis in space" existed.
But apparently, the first film was popular enough that a crowdfunding campaign hosted in Indiegogo, helped spawn the the sequel to the Finnish-German-Australian film. The campaign raised nearly four times more than the original goal of $150,000, allowing director Timo Vuorensola to return to the world that he helped create in Iron Sky, with the help of screenwriter Dalan Musson.
In March 2016, fans who donated to the campaign got a rough cut of the film, and an earlier version of the script was also sent out to thousands of fans of the first film so they could give feedback.
The film stars Lara Rossi in the lead role of Obi Washington, Vladimir Burlakov and Kit Dale, with Julia Dietze and Udo Kier, both from first Iron Sky, as they return to the Nazi moonbase to escape from Earth's nuclear devastation.
Here's the official synopsis, courtesy of IronSky.net, below:
Twenty years after the events of Iron Sky, the former Nazi Moonbase has become the last refuge of mankind. Earth was devastated by a nuclear war, but buried deep under the wasteland lies a power that could save humanity – or destroy it once and for all.
Iron Sky The Coming Race leads our heroes on an adventure into the Hollow Earth, where they must fight the Vril, an ancient shapeshifting reptilian race and their army of dinosaurs.
Iron Sky: The Coming Race is set to hit theaters in 2018.
