Gal Gadot Filmed 'Wonder Woman' Reshoots 5 Months Pregnant Because She's A Friggin' Superhero

Gal Gadot came pretty close to actually becoming a real Wonder Woman when she returned to Leavesden Studios outside London to finish some reshoots for Wonder Woman.

It was November of last year, and Gadot was five months pregnant with her second child, her baby bump conspicuously showing. But through some movie magic and some plain old female badassery, Gadot filmed the reshoots without a hitch, showing us all up.

Reshoots are a regular part of the filmmaking process, as is working around actresses' pregnancies. Avengers: Age of Ultron did it by using a body double for Scarlett Johansson's wide shots, and using mostly close-ups for her the rest of the time. Hiding baby bumps on television stars has become such a running gag that YouTube videos have been compiled of the most creative methods.

But other than Johansson, it's rare that a pregnant actress will have to go through a huge amount of physical strain during their movie — unless they're the star of the first female-led superhero movie in the modern era.

Because Gadot's bump was already pretty prominent, there was no way to hide it behind a shield or other camera trickery. So, according to Entertainment Weekly, costumers cut a triangle from the front of her armor, replacing it with a bright green cloth that would allow the special effects department to edit it in post-production. Gadot said:

"On close-up I looked very much like Wonder Woman. On wide shots I looked very funny, like Wonder Woman pregnant with Kermit the Frog."

But director Patty Jenkins commended Gadot for her dedication to her work even while carrying a child in her womb, which required her run and perform some fight choreography. She noted that Gadot overcame any obstacles during filming including pregnancy, rain and freezing cold. "Everyday it was a hilarious gauntlet and she would do it," Jenkins said.

Wonder Woman producer Chuck Roven was impressed by Gadot's work ethic especially when she was pregnant. He recounted seeing her — and her Kermit baby bump — in action:

"Part of what we were doing was augmenting some of the final action piece. She couldn't do a huge amount of physical activity but she was being aggressive. She still had to be fierce. That was special. I've been doing this for awhile but I've never that had that experience before."

So now that we know Gadot is as tough five months pregnant as she is when she's slim and fit, all the men can go home now. Gadot, Beyoncé and Serena Williams have got this.
