VOTD: See How The 'Ghost In The Shell' Trailer Compares To The Original Anime
Last weekend, the first trailer for the live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell arrived. Not all fans of the original anime are excited to see how director Rupert Sanders brings the original story to life on the big screen with Scarlett Johansson, but there were also plenty less familiar with the anime who were impressed or at least more curious after seeing the trailer.
Whether you're familiar with the Ghost in the Shell or not, you might be interested to see how the footage in the live-action trailer compares to the anime, and a new video does just that.

There are plenty of shots lifted straight from the original anime, but thanks to the magic of visual effects, they're even more detailed in live-action form. However, borrowing too many shots from the original anime can be tricky, because then the live-action adaptation just feels pointless. At the same time, if you depart too much from the source material, then you risk turning off the fanbase. It's a difficult line to walk, but it would be nice if it ended up being something worth watching.
For the time being, I'm excited to see what the Ghost in the Shell adaptation has to offer. As someone who doesn't really like the visual style of anime, there's something that's much more aesthetically pleasing to me about the live-action adaptation. Maybe there are enough audiences who feel the same way who will be experiencing this story for the first time.
Ghost in the Shell hits theaters on March 31, 2017.
