'Twin Peaks' Teaser Brings Back A Haunting Theme And A Familiar Face

There is a lot of anticipation regarding the return of Twin Peaks in 2017. Not only does the series follow-up coming to Showtime mark the first major directorial effort in 10 years from David Lynch, but it's also reviving one of the most revered cult classic shows of all time, with a crazy roster of talent on board. Now a new Twin Peaks teaser just raises more questions while confirming a new detail about the series.

There's no footage from the Twin Peaks sequel, but we do get a transparent image of the deceased Laura Palmer, whose death served as the catalyst for the entire series. While we don't know what to expect regarding the story for this extension of the series from the early 90s, we at least know that the story still revolves around Palmer somehow.

In addition, as you can see in the teaser, Showtime has also confirmed that composer Angelo Badalamenti is returning to score the series. Badalamenti composed the theme which went on to win a Grammy Award, and it's easily one of the most recognizable opening themes and credits sequences. Badalamenti has written some of the most unique film scores of our time. He is widely known for his long-standing collaboration with TWIN PEAKS director David Lynch, which has produced a creative and inspired body of work. In addition to receiving the Grammy Award for the theme music of the original series, the "Soundtrack Album from Twin Peaks" achieved gold status in 25 countries. Badalamenti has also received three Emmy Award nominations for the original series, as well as Golden Globe® nominations for films The Straight Story and Mulholland Drive.

I wonder if the new series will bring back the vintage opening credits sequence or merely feature an updated version of the theme with all-new visuals. We won't find out until the show arrives sometime in 2017, but hopefully we'll have learned more about the series before then.
