Cool Stuff: This 'Star Wars' Speeder Bike Motorcycle Is Something Special
Even though there have been plenty of gadgets from film and television that have become realities in our time, most sci-fi creations end up just being mere dreams. This is especially true when it comes to various vehicles we've seen from the likes of Star Wars and other iconic franchises. But today, one iconic vehicle from a galaxy far, far away has become a reality...sort of.
In Return of the Jedi, one of the best sequences is the speeder bike chase that happens on the forest moon of Endor. Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia must evade some Scout Troopers so as not to alert the Empire to the presence of Rebels on the surface trying to shut down the shield generator of the second Death Star. The speeder bike is an awesome vehicle, but as a hovering, fast piece of machinery, it's not exactly easy to create in the real world. But the folks at Vintage Works have done the best they can by turning a motorcycle into a Speeder Bike, and you can see it in action after the jump.
Here's the awesome Speeder Bike motorcycle from Vintage Works (via io9):
Like any functional motorcycle, the handlebars steer the bike itself, but they also control the flaps in the front. Of course, the best part of this creation is the fact that it makes the blaster and flying sound effects from the movie. Hopefully there aren't any Ewoks around to pull you off the bike with a vine or anything tricky like that.
Sadly, this appears to be just a one-off creation, so your dreams of one day riding a speeder bike will have to remain dreams. But before you lose yourself in a stream of thoughts about flying through the forest moon of Endor, here's another look at the speeder bike motorcycle in action:
