POTD: 'The Simpsons' Store Is Now Open In China
Even though The Simpsons has waned in popularity in recent years, it's still one of the most popular animated shows ever made. However, not every country hopped on The Simpsons train at the height of the show's popularity in the United States. In fact, the show is just now growing in popularity across the Asia Pacific region, and that has resulted in the first brick and mortar store dedicated to The Simpsons merchandise, and you can see what it looks like below.
Here's some photos of The Simpsons store in Taikooli Sanlitun, Beijing (via Deadline and The Beijinger):
The store has over 125 specially curated items, including apparel, accessories, head gear, memorabilia and more that aren't available anywhere else. This is all within a building that has fans walk through a giant silhouette of Bart Simpson's signature spiky head.
Here's what Jeffrey Godsick, President of 20th Century Fox Consumer Products, said about the new store:
We are delighted with the rapidly growing enthusiasm for The Simpsons brand across the Asia Pacific region. No matter the customer — a family, a high-end shopper or a fashionista — The Simpsons store in Beijing offers that unique consumer engagement with one of the world's most celebrated properties. The development of this one-of-a-kind retail environment has been a true collaborative effort between 20th Century Fox Consumer Products, Her-Chain and Gracie Films; we look forward to launching future stores for The Simpsons together.
Sadly, we probably won't see a store like this pop up in the United States, since the enthusiasm for The Simpsons isn't as high here as it is over in Asia. But we still have plenty of merchandise from The Simpsons, and there's probably plenty of it from the '90s that you can find in secondhand shops and collectible stores around the country.
