'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Blu-Ray: What To Expect From The Home Video Release
Over two months into its theatrical release, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens can still be found playing in theaters. However, within the next month or two, fans will be able to enjoy the latest chapter in the Star Wars saga from the comforts of their own home.
Even though it hasn't been officially confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm, reports have pegged an April 5th release date for The Force Awakens to hit Blu-Ray and DVD with a digital platform release planned for March 15th. And those dates seem to be accurate since we're starting to get information about what we can expect on The Force Awakens Blu-Ray in terms of special features and deleted scenes. Find out what we know so far below.
StarWarsNewsNet has word from one of the film's editors, Mary Jo Markey, about just how many deleted scenes we can expect to see on the home video release of the film:
"There aren't a lot. There's one with Harrison Ford, there's one with Rey, but there aren't a lot. I think there are maybe seven or eight"
But don't expect much in the vein of revelations from these scenes as fellow editor Maryann Brandon says, "I honestly think that what is in the film is exactly what needs to be in the film, and what isn't remains fun but not necessary."
As of now we don't know what specific scenes will be included on the home video release, but thanks to production photos from the set, we do know some of the scenes that didn't end up in the movie involve Stormtroopers in Maz Kanata's castle and Snowtroopers aboard the Millennium Falcon.
Previously we dove into 20 scenes that were cut from the film or perhaps never made it in front of a camera, so there's a chance that some of those scenes will end up being on the home video release. However, it's important to note that we don't know if the deleted scenes will be available on the DVD release or just the Blu-Ray. But we do know more about the special features that will be on the latter high-definition disc.
Swedish site CDON.com (via StarWarsNewsNet) has put up The Force Awakens Blu-Ray for pre-order on their site and included the following list of special features on the disc
This comes not long after news of the Blu-Ray release having three discs was revealed. The set is said to have two Blu-Rays discs and a DVD disc. The movie will be on both one of the Blu-Ray discs and the DVD disc, and the second Blu-Ray is likely for the special features listed above. That doesn't mean the DVD won't have these special features though as they could also easily be put on a second DVD disc.
Anyway, hopefully we'll get official confirmation on these release dates and special features soon. Maybe there will even be a special edition release of the movie with more goodies. We'll have to wait and see.
