Rumor: 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' Will Introduce One Really Weird, Really Big Character

James Gunn has said he no longer plans to respond to rumors about which characters will or won't be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but that isn't stopping the rest of the internet from speculating. A new rumor has cropped up today indicating that a really big character from the comics will be dropping by the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure. And when we say really big, we mean it literally. Find out who it is below. Be warned that potential spoilers lie after the jump.

The new rumor comes from Geek.com, who are fairly new to the business of superhero movie news scoops. As such, we'd caution you to take what follows with a grain of salt. Just think of everything from here on out as a rumor, not confirmed fact.

In any case, the site has heard from sources who claim Ego the Living Planet will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. For those unfamiliar with the character from the comics, he's exactly what he sounds like: a living planet. Here's a picture:

Ego the Living Planet

Ego the Living Planet started out as a regular old planet. But after he was imbued with consciousness by a mysterious being known as the Stranger, Ego began trying to figure out his place in the universe. He came up with a plan for interstellar conquest plot which put him at odds with Thor. He then teamed up with Thor to battle Galactus, the devourer of words, but after Ego went mad he found himself fighting Thor (and other heroes). Other Marvel characters he's come into contact with over the years include the Fantastic Four, the Kree, Thanos, and Rocket Raccoon.

Just how Ego the Living Planet will fit into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 isn't clear, and this is the first we've heard of the possibility that Ego could drop by the movie. But the rumor seems somewhat plausible. Ego doesn't seem likely to make an appearance in the next Thor movie, as the Norse god and his giant green buddy will have Ragnarok to deal with. The Guardians' weird little corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be just the home for him.

Again, though, that's just a rumor for now. What we do know is that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will once again star Chris PrattZoe SaldanaDave Bautista, Vin DieselBradley CooperKaren GillanMichael RookerPom Klementieff, and possibly Kurt RussellLee Pace, who played Ronan in the first film, and Benicio del Toro, who played the Collector, are not expected to reprise their roles. Thanos won't be a major player in this one, though he should have much more to do down the line with Avengers: Infinity War due out in 2018 and 2019.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arrives in theaters May 5, 2017.
