'American Crime Story' Featurette: A Spinoff From The 'American Horror Story' Franchise

One of the more promising shows coming up is American Crime Story: The People v O.J. Simpson. Produced by Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story), it's written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (Ed Wood). There is plenty of talent both in front of and behind the camera for the FX show.

I've spoken with Alexander and Karaszewski about the show in the past, and they've described it as a sprawling, Robert Altman-esque depiction of Los Angeles and the O.J. Simpson case. The first season of American Crime Story stars Cuba Gooding Jr. as Simpson, Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark, Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran, David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian, and Selma Blair as Kris Jenner. The show also stars John Travolta, Nathan Lane, and one of the most reliable actors working today, Bruce Greenwood.

This featurette refreshes your memory of the O.J. Simpson case, while also teasing what the show is going for. The early reviews for season one of American Crime Story have been very enthusiastic, and already Ryan Murphy has plans for season two of the show, which will focus on Katrina. I'll be watching a few episodes from the 10-episode series in the next week or so, and based on the reviews and everything we've seen thus far, I'm looking forward to it.

American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, the first installment of the new limited series from prolific producer Ryan Murphy, will debut on FX in early 2016 with an all-star cast portraying the key figures in the infamous O.J. Simpson murder trial. The cast includes Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. Simpson, John Travolta as defense attorney Robert Shapiro, David Schwimmer as defense attorney Robert Kardashian, Sarah Paulson as prosecutor Marcia Clark, Courtney B. Vance as defense attorney Johnnie Cochran, and Bruce Greenwood as Los Angeles County District Attorney Gil Garcetti.

Based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin, the limited series is a look at the O.J. Simpson trial told from the perspective of the lawyers. It explores the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution overconfidence, defense shrewdness, and the LAPD's history with the city's African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.
