'I Saw The Light' Trailer: Give A Rousing Welcome To Tom Hiddleston As Hank Williams
After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, the biopic I Saw the Light about country singer Hank Williams was supposed to be released Thanksgiving weekend. But back in October, the movie was pushed back to a spring 2016 release, with a crowded awards season and Tom Hiddleston's busy schedule cited as the primary reasons for the delay.
Now that the film is just a few months away, we finally have the first I Saw the Light trailer, showing that this is undoubtedly Tom Hiddleston's Walk the Line, with pretty much the same beats and a praiseworthy leading performance.
Here's the I Saw the Light trailer from JoBlo:
As we saw in a clip back in September around the time of the TIFF premiere, Hiddleston does all his own singing as Hank Williams, and you'd never know that he has a British accent. Plus, he's a damn good singer, even with the comparison to a country legend like Williams.
It's easy to see why Sony Classics thought this might get lost in the shuffle of awards season, because while the performances look fantastic and Williams' life is an interesting story, it's also very familiar for those of us who have seen the acclaimed Johnny Cash story Walk the Line. There's a struggling marriage, infidelity on the road, substance abuse, redemption, and of course, a soundtrack featuring classic country music. It's bound to be a good movie, but doesn't really offer anything groundbreaking for awards season.
Elizabeth Olsen looks to turn in a fine performance as well, and her presence alongside Hiddleston is likely to get some more mainstream eyes on this drama. After all, where else are you going to be able to see Loki belt out some country tunes while having a troubled marriage with Scarlet Witch?
