First Official 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Synopsis Revealed

20th Century Fox and director Bryan Singer haven't exactly been shy about showing off the goods from X-Men: Apocalypse. We've seen tons of stills and set photos, and the cast and crew have happily talked about what's coming up for our favorite mutant superheroes. We still haven't seen a trailer, but in the meantime the studio has dropped the first official X-Men Apocalypse synopsis to tie everything together. The new plot details were buried in a press release about, of all things, the film's partnership with M&M'S. Here's the official X-Men Apocalypse synopsis:

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

The synopsis doesn't reveal much we didn't already know, but it's still helpful to get confirmation on the character's plans and motives. But I know what you're really thinking. "Back up," you say. "How do X-Men and M&M'S even go together?" The answer is "adorably and nonsensically."

Green as Storm is fine, I guess, but how is Yellow the candy-coated chocolate counterpart to Magneto? He's not nearly angry or ruthless enough to fill that role. The pricklier Red is clearly a much better fit for that helmet, even if his red shell and that red cape seem like they'd clash. But since they've inexplicably decided to make Yellow the Magneto of the X-M&M-iverse, let's just hope they came to their senses in time to realize this means Red has to be Professor X.

X-Men: Apocalypse — which, to be clear, stars people, not cartoon candies — arrives May 27, 2016.
