'Vinyl' Trailer: Martin Scorsese And Mick Jagger Join Forces For HBO's 1970s Rock Drama
"Sex, drugs, and rock n' roll" isn't just an expression when it comes to HBO's Vinyl – they're literally what the show is about. Set at the dawn of punk, hip-hop, and disco in 1970s New York, the drama stars Bobby Cannavale as Richie Finestra, a record label president trying to save his company without destroying everyone around him.
Vinyl reunites the Boardwalk Empire executive producer of Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter. Mick Jagger is along for the ride as well, because if you're making a drama about the 1970s music scene of course you want Mick Jagger involved. Watch the Vinyl trailer after the jump.
HBO posted the new Vinyl trailer on YouTube.
Vinyl has all the ingredients to become the next big critically acclaimed prestige drama: a troubled antihero protagonist, a pedigreed producing team, a big-name cast, a sumptuous period setting, and a stamp of approval from HBO. We'll have to wait and see if the show actually lives up to its potential, but at least the trailer looks fun.Olivia Wilde plays Richie's wife Devon, who doesn't look all that pleased with him at the moment. Ray Romano, Juno Temple, Max Casella, P.J. Byrne, J.C. Mackenzie, and Jack Quaid portray some of the people who work with Richie. Also starring are Ato Essandoh as a former colleague of Richie's, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen as Devon's friend, James Jagger (yes, as in son of Mick) as a punk rocker, and Paul Ben-Victor as a record company owner.
HBO has Vinyl set to premiere sometime in January.
