Watch This Marvel Phase One 10-Minute Retrospective Video
We're now completely through two phases of the Marvel cinematic universe with Ant-Man just completing the second phase this past summer. And next summer will bring the beginning of Phase Three in Captain America: Civil War on May 6th, 2016.
And since we've gone through three years and six Marvel movies, maybe your memory of the films of Phase One is starting to get a little hazy. If that's the case, why not check out this 10-minute Marvel Phase One retrospective that begins with Iron Man in 2008 and runs up through the assemble of The Avengers on the big screen for the first time in 2012.
Here's the Marvel Phase One retrospective from Jakub Ignarski (via The Playlist):
Even though it's been a relatively short amount of time since these movies hit theaters, if you haven't seen them in awhile, you might be surprised by how much more scaled down these movies seem to be, at least for blockbusters, when compared to their sequels that came in Phase Two.
It's clear that these movies had money thrown at them, but the studio was still reserved about how it was spent, mostly because there was no guarantee that a film like Thor or Captain America: The First Avenger would work as well as Iron Man. When you compare the first movie in each of those franchises to their sequels, there's a clear difference in big budget action.
But these Phase One movies did exactly what they needed to do by establishing the Marvel universe on the big screen and launching several franchises that would eventually lead to a super franchise in the form of The Avengers. And without the success of these films, we might never have gotten the gem that is James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, easily one of the best movies to come out of Marvel Studios.
