'The Conjuring 2' Starts Shooting; See The First Set Photos From Director James Wan
After spending much of the summer kicking back and enjoying the massive success of Furious 7, director James Wan is back at work on the set of The Conjuring 2. And he's got the set photos to prove it. After the jump, see the first pics as The Conjuring 2 starts shooting.
Wan shared a photo of himself directing The Conjuring 2 on Instagram.
And lest his cinematic ghost story become haunted by actual evil spirits, Wan had a priest on set to bless the shoot.
The Conjuring 2 brings back Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Frances O'Connor plays a mother who turns to the Warrens in desperation after her daughter experiences a haunting. Simon McBurney, seen earlier this summer in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, will also star.
Like the first The Conjuring, and unlike the Conjuring spinoff Annabelle, The Conjuring 2 will be based on one of the Warrens' real cases. Based on a photo posted by Wan earlier this summer, it looks like the sequel will be based on the Enfield Poltergeist case, which involved two young sisters in an English council house in the late 1970s. The Conjuring's Chad and Carey Hayes returned to write the script.
The first The Conjuring made $318 million when it opened in 2013, and earned rave reviews to boot. Naturally, studio Warner Bros. immediately began thinking about a sequel, which it originally hoped to put out in 2015. However, they decided to delay the release to 2016 so Wan could return to direct after finishing Furious 7.
Wan has proved such an effective horror director that it'd be a shame for the genre to lose him completely, but for now he seems to be splitting his time. Once he's done with The Conjuring 2, Wan will go into Warner Bros.' Aquaman.
The Conjuring 2 opens June 10, 2016.
