Meet The New 'Vacation' Family Truckster: The 2015 Tartan Prancer, The Honda Of Albania
There wouldn't be a road trip in Vacation without a reliable vehicle for grown up Rusty Griswold (Ed Helms) and his family to take across the country from Chicago to Walley World in California. Well, reliable might be too strong of a word for the 2015 Tartan Prancer, the new family truckster in the comedy reboot.
Touted as the Honda of Albania, it comes with all the latest Albanian technology, like a CB radio, outside door handles that double as cupholders and a removable steering wheel. The Batmobile has nothing on the Tartan Prancer. Meet the new Vacation family truckster after the jump!
The car looks great in this advertisement, but it's the powerful kicks by the driver that are really selling me on this magnificent machine. And if you need anymore convincing, here's Rusty showing his family just how fantastic it is:
The new ride for the Griswolds is the source of a lot of great jokes in Vacation. I don't want to spoil all the mishaps this car gets the family into, but the scene above is just a taste of the chaos caused by the Tartan Prancer.
Keep in mind that the intention of the Tartan Prancer isn't to top the classic family truckster from the original National Lampoon's Vacation, much like the new Ecto-1 from Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot isn't trying to be better than the original ghostbusting vehicle. It's just a new element that adds humor to the road trip silliness.
Honestly, I think it's hilarious that this car was designed and actually manufactured for the movie, because it's one of the worst automobiles ever created. From the double rearview mirrors in the front and back to the faulty safety features, it's just a disaster. And if you need anymore evidence of that, here's the Tartan Prancer compared to the real-life vehicle, the Honda Odyssey:
You can see the Tartan Prancer in action when Vacation arrives on July 29th.
