New 'Deadpool' Image: The Merc With A Mouth Is Locked And Loaded
Comic-Con is proving a boon for movie lovers, even ones who aren't actually attending Comic-Con. Ahead of the annual geekstravaganza, Fox has debuted a shiny new Deadpool still with Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth. See the new Deadpool image after the jump.
EW unveiled the new Deadpool image. It seems to be a still from the movie, as opposed to just a promotional pic.
In the accompanying interview, Reynolds declared he wanted to "kiss" the person who leaked the 2011 test footage, sparking massive buzz for the project before Fox had even announced it. "And not just a little kiss," he continued, "but full on the mouth, sloppy, with tongue, for two straight minutes on live television, without commercial interruption. And then I'll buy you dinner at Red Lobster, at least, and dessert."
Reynolds previously portrayed the character in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The film was widely panned and didn't exactly win over fans of Deadpool from the comics. However, the upcoming standalone film promises to be much more in line with the character's twisted, sarcastic, fourth-wall-shattering spirit.
"Deadpool is a hard R," confirmed producer Simon Kinberg. "It's graphic. Nothing is taboo. You either commit to a truly outrageous boundary-pushing kind of movie or you don't." Director Tim Miller added, "I felt Fight Club and Tyler Durden were good corollaries. We are in strip clubs and dive bars and crappy apartments and far away from the shiny X-Men world."
Fox has Deadpool in theaters February 12, 2016.
Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
