Lawrence Kasdan Teases Lando's Return And The Length Of 'The Force Awakens'
Lando Calrissian may not be in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but the character is having a renaissance. He appeared in Star Wars Rebels, is returning next season, and is even about to get his own comic book series. But when it comes to Star Wars, the movies are the most important thing and in a new interview, Force Awakens co-writer Lawrence Kasdan has some bad news and good news. The bad news is Lando is not in Episode 7. The good news is he thinks Lando will make a big screen return.
Below, read exactly what Kasdan had to say about Lando and talking about the potential length of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Kasdan was talking to Vanity Fair for their wonderful feature story (read it here) when he was asked about if Lando will come back to the big screen?
Right now, there's no Lando Calrissian in this movie. But Lando I don't think is finished in any way, shape, or form.
Billy Dee Williams himself has said he believes he'd appear in an upcoming movie, hinting towards Star Wars Episode VIII. Maybe that's what Kasdan is talking about. Or maybe he just means Rebels and the comics. You can never be quite sure.
Another great quote from Kasdan is how he and director J.J. Abrams have been trying to keep The Force Awakens tighter than most blockbusters:
This new movie, first of all, it's turning out really great. J.J. directed it so beautifully, and it's so exhilarating and everything. It's a big movie. It's full of wonderful stuff, incident and character stuff and jokes and effects. One of the things that we always refocus on from the get-go was that it not be one of these very long, bloated blockbusters. A lot of very entertaining movies lately are too long. In the last 20 minutes, you think, why isn't this over? We didn't want to make a movie like that. I mean, we were really aiming to have it be—when it's over you'll say, "I wish there's more." Or, "Wait, is it over?" Because how rarely you get that feeling nowadays, and I think we're headed there. But it means that there will be constant critical looking at it from now to the end, saying, "Do we need this? Do we need that? Is it better if this comes out, even though we love it?" Killing your darlings.
I love the sound of that almost as much as I love the sound of Lando returning. What are your thoughts?
