How Long Is The 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' Rogue Cut? [UPDATED]

UPDATE: Director Bryan Singer has weighed in on this. We've made the necessary changes.X-Men: Days of Future Past was a monster hit in spite of some huge obstacles. Somehow, director Bryan Singer was able to make good movie that basically blended the casts of two different franchises into one story that links versions of characters that were never originally meant to meet. In a way, it's kind of a miracle.

To achieve a miracle like that, sometimes you have to kill your darlings. Among the required cuts to the film, Singer decided to remove an entire subplot involving Rogue, played by Anna Paquin. This summer, a new Blu-ray will be released called the X-Men: Days of Future Past Rogue Cut, which reinstates Rogue's story. Now we know how much new footage is in there: 17 minutes.

Empire Magazine reports the X-Men: Days of Future Past Rogue Cut is 142 minutes and 37 seconds, which is  11 minutes and 11 seconds longer than the theatrical cut. That's pretty hefty chunk of new footage.UPDATE: Bryan Singer disagrees. He said it's 17 minutes.

In an interview with Collider last year, writer and producer Simon Kinberg talked about what it entails and why it was cut:

The biggest chunk we took out of the film from first cut to final cut was the Rogue plot.  And that was the sub-plot that has now been well-publicized, but that I created, not actually to bring Rogue into the movie, though that was a wonderful consequence, but more that I wanted to have, and this was in the early script phase, I wanted a mission for old Charles and old Erik, for Magneto and Xavier to go off on a mission together....I mean, truly, seriously, it was like, 'What would it be like to have Patrick and Ian on a road trip together?'

And that was kind of, you know, it got condensed as I wrote it and then when we shot it, but it was just a sub-plot. It was a perfectly good sub-plot and people will see it one day, and Anna was great in it and it was well-directed; it just didn't serve the overall story. And it didn't, it never did, it was created outside the core story. As a result, when you watched the movie, you were like, 'Why are we on this detour, on a movie that already has two time periods, two types of Sentinels, 10-12 main characters, just as a lark?' And so it ended up getting cut.

There's no set release date for the Rogue Cut except this Summer. And it'll have new extras too, so if you bought the Days of Future Past Blu-ray previously, this isn't just a copy of that release.
