'Regression' Teaser: Is Emma Watson Haunted By Satanists?
Director Alejandro Amenábar, who directed Open Your Eyes, The Sea Inside, and The Others, goes back to dark atmospheres once again with Regression, which stars Emma Watson and Ethan Hawke. (You've seen the picture above, so you probably knew that.)
We find their characters in Minnesota in 1990, where Watson's character accuses her father and others of coercing her into some unspeakable deeds. Hawke plays a detective investigating, and David Thewlis plays a psychologist who helps with the inquiry. Now we've got a Regression teaser, and a great poster, both of which you can see below.
There's almost certainly more to this case than what this teaser shows, and the story seems to draw on a few different instances of real-world crimes and paranoia. The '80s and '90s accusations of parents involved in Satanic ritual abuse clearly factor into this, as do other cases of accused and proven mass sexual abuse. So is Watson's memory of a black mass something that has been induced, or that she created to deal with other abuse, or is there some legit Satanism at play here?
Regression is set for release on August 28. David Dencik, Lothaire Bluteau, and Devon Bostick also appear.
