'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Is No Longer The #1 Movie Of 2014

It was fun while it lasted. But after several months in the top spot, Guardians of the Galaxy is no longer the top grossing movie of 2014. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 overtook the Marvel film Wednesday when it passed the $333.17 million Guardians grossed domestically. Adding more fuel to the fire, Mockingjay Part 1 did this without a bump for 3D ticket prices.

Oddly enough, a similar scenario happened in 2013 when Iron Man 3 was the top grossing film of the year into early 2014 when a November release finally surpassed it. That film was The Hunger Games: Catching Fire so it seems like Marvel and Katinss definitely have a beef. At least later this year, when The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 is released, it'll have to beat more than just Avengers: Age of Ultron. It'll have Star Wars: The Force Awakens to contend with too.
